It’s something that sounds like it shouldn’t work at all, but yet, somehow does. ‘Gothic meets Suburbia’ is something a combination of both the Gothic architecture that Burton loves tied together with his upbringing in the sunny Los Angeles. It is almost as if Burton is putting his own personal traits into his characters to make them more personal and relatable.
TIM BURTON CHARACTERS FANCY DRESS SKIN
Many characters, if not all, in his films have very pale skin and dark eyes, and it is believed that that was related to him being an insomniac. Alice also has long blonde hair and very pale skin, but she is not seen wearing the white dress. Burton also often has a female character with long blonde hair and pale skin wearing an extravagant white dress. The use of Black and White stripes was inspired by the Dr. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are wearing black and white striped shirts in Alice in Wonderland.

This can been seen in many films, including Beetlejuice, Sweeney Todd, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Sleepy Hollow. He also often uses black and white stripes. All throughout this film, characters are wearing costume that represents the 19th century. All of the guests at Alice’s surprise engagement party are wearing similar attire. This is coupled with an elegant half updo. It’s a long dress, with a bit of volume, with buttons running down the middle of it. In Alice in Wonderland, we see Alice wearing a light blue dress with lace trimming around the neckline and lace short sleeves.

Many of his characters are found wearing 19th Century costume, even if the film itself is set in more modern times. One of the distinctive features of a Tim Burton film is the use of costume.
